Hygieia, 1931
Gustav Klimt
Production Date 2022
I'm a huge fan of Klimt's works, and this is one of my favorites. It turned out to be much easier than I had anticipated. The quality is really quite good for a budget brand.
Hygieia is a powerful symbolic figure from Gustav Klimt's monumental Medicine, one of the controversial Faculty Paintings created for the University of Vienna. Representing the Greek goddess of health, Hygieia stands in an elaborate robe holding the Rod of Asclepius, entwined by a serpent—the enduring symbol of medicine. Klimt combines classical mythology with his richly decorative style, transforming the traditional personification of health into a commanding and enigmatic figure. Although the original Medicine was destroyed in 1945, Klimt's depiction of Hygieia survives through photographs and preparatory studies and remains one of his most recognizable images.
