Madonna and Saints (Also known as the The San Barnaba Altarpiece)
Sandro Botticelli
Production Date Unknown (80s?)
As with all of the previous puzzles of this brand I have done, the pieces were fragile and some were damaged when taken apart by a previous owner. Fortunately, repairs will be easy. I found it to be a challenging build, with the top half being the most difficult. It was definitely worth the effort though as it turned out to be quite beautiful.
The San Barnaba Altarpiece is a monumental religious painting by the Florentine Renaissance master Sandro Botticelli. Painted around 1487–1488, the work depicts the Virgin and Child enthroned beneath an elaborate architectural setting, surrounded by angels and six saints. Botticelli brings together graceful figures, rich colour and carefully ordered space to create a scene of remarkable harmony and dignity. Now preserved in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, the altarpiece is an important example of Botticelli's mature religious art.
