2000 Schmidt (96.6 x 98.8)
Francais Contre Anglais
Loyset Liedes
Production Date Unknown

The work is also known as "The English crossing the Tyne" or "The Battle of Stanhope Park."

It was an easy and enjoyable build. Schmidt quality is top notch, though there is a manufacturing defect in the form of a scratch on the lower right side of the puzzle. It had to be the result of the production process since I acquired this one factory sealed.

I found some interesting info on this work at the following website that shines light on how the battle is composed:

"An illustration of part of the Weardale campaign of 1327, from a fifteenth-century manuscript of Froissart's Croniques. This image is a piece of sequential art and as such should be read, in effect, like a modern comic book. In the top left corner, the Scots are formed up in a strong position on the opposite side of the river from the English, who have dispatched a herald to treat with them. In the top right corner, the English make camp opposite the Scots and send a small force across the river to try to tempt the Scots into battle. In the bottom left corner, the two sides engage in some skirmishing, while in the bottom right the English army waits fruitlessly on the far side of the river."
