This is a gorgeous puzzle, but that sky was difficult.

The Reception of the Imperial Ambassador is a Venetian veduta by Canaletto (Giovanni Antonio Canal), painted in the 18th century. The scene records a grand ceremonial event in Venice, combining the arrival and reception of an important diplomatic figure with the city's spectacular architecture and waterways.

Canaletto carefully depicts the buildings, boats, crowds, and ceremonial activity, using precise linear perspective and an unusually clear, luminous atmosphere. The contrast between the monumental Venetian architecture and the many tiny figures and vessels gives the scene both grandeur and lively detail. Like many of Canaletto's works, it functions not simply as a landscape but as a visual record of Venetian civic and diplomatic life.
