I completed this over about 7 weeks in 2014. It's a beautiful image, but the puzzle is much darker than the box suggests.
Frans Francken the Younger’s Gallery of a Collector is a celebrated example of the Kunstkamer, or cabinet of curiosities, genre that flourished in Antwerp during the early seventeenth century. The painting presents an imaginary collector’s gallery densely packed with paintings, sculptures, scientific instruments, shells, coins, books, and other precious or unusual objects. Francken transforms the room into a visual catalogue of knowledge and luxury, inviting the viewer to examine the extraordinary variety of objects arranged throughout the space. Small figures of collectors and connoisseurs occupy the room, suggesting that the gallery is not merely a storehouse of possessions but a place for intellectual discussion, artistic appreciation, and social exchange.
