I did this one while living in the Netherlands and later had it framed. It has been hanging on my walls ever since and is Leyla's favorite puzzle in my collection.
The famous two cherubs at the bottom of Raphael’s Sistine Madonna are among the most recognizable details in Western art. Painted around 1512–1513, they appear resting on the lower edge of the composition, gazing upward toward the Madonna and Christ Child. Their relaxed poses and thoughtful, slightly wistful expressions contrast with the solemn religious figures above them.
The cherubs are actually part of the larger composition rather than an independent painting. Their placement at the bottom creates a visual transition between the heavenly apparition and the viewer's earthly space. Their wings are largely hidden, and their childlike appearance, informal poses, and direct gaze give the scene an unusually human and approachable quality.
The original Sistine Madonna is housed in the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister in Dresden, Germany. The two cherubs have subsequently become an iconic image in their own right, reproduced extensively on prints, postcards, posters and decorative objects. For a puzzle featuring just the cherubs, the image is therefore a detail cropped from Raphael's larger altarpiece, rather than a separate Raphael painting.
